David Bailey

It wouldn’t be right not to look at the work of David Bailey during this square format section so I’ve gathered a few of the most relevant portraits to learn from them. David was one of the greatest at positioning the model within the frame to create his unique look that people love. He was also known for his high key light but I’m not interested in that right now because I’m set on using Rembrandt lighting or slight variations of it for my photos so I’ll just focus on composition for this section of research.

When you look at his work there are no two images alike which is testament to his creativity and a lesson to experiment constantly to better your work and to learn new skills. I think the top two photos have the properties that I would want in my work so the next time I shoot I will try to create variations of these using Rembrandt lighting.
